The former President of PASOK Evangelos Venizelos as set a series of “terms” in order to vote for the new bailout agreement that has been submitted in Parliament, which he published on his personal website.
In his statement Mr. Venizelos called these “terms of national responsibility”, with the first one being the Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras admitting that he “lied, slandered, deceived and harmed”.
Secondly he called for a reform of electoral law and abolition of the 50-seat bonus given to first party, in order to support the need for coalition governments.
He then called for the President of Parliament Zoi Konstantopoulou to be “relieved of her duties” and for the Prime Minister to outline the timeline of developments, while ruling out elections and further delays.
Finally he called for the formation of a national unity government “with a mutually accepted Prime Minister and a strong national team that will evaluate and implement a national recovery plan”.
Mr. Venizelos further noted that should the Prime Minister decide to call election, he should ensure that they will have the least possible burden on the economy and that the relevant Constitutional provisions will be upheld.
According to the former PASOK leader, should the opposition parties up vote the agreement without setting these terms, there is a threat of causing serious harm to national interests. Mr. Venizelos also criticized the River for “dangerous adventurism” and New Democracy for insisting on its partisan “patriotism”.
