SYRIZA MEP Kostas Chrysogonos claimed that there is noting is “nothing unreasonable” with the introduction of maximum caps on pensions, in an interview he gave to Athina 984 radio station on Monday.

Mr. Chrysogonos explained that a pension is not intended to make a pensioner richer, but rather a means ensure a dignified living after retirement.

The introduction of pension caps could help protect those on low pensions, he argued. When asked how much a maximum pension should be, he estimated that 2,500 to 3,000 may be enough.

He further added that the caps would help avoid any further cuts in supplementary pensions, which would affect the majority of pensioners, who he noted earn about 600 to 700 euros.
