A 33-year-old Algerian man who was arrested on Sunday in Athens is to be taken to the prosecutor at noon on Tuesday, where he will be called to address charges of terrorist activity in Belgium.

While the there is some confusion over the 33-year-old man’s identity, Belgian authorities have requested the extradition for further questioning. Initially it appears that the Belgian prosecutor dismissed the suspect’s relation to known jihadist groups and suggested that the suspect be set free.

However after the Greek authorities investigated the suspect’s mobile phone records, it transpired that he was under surveillance and Belgium has requested that he be handed over for further questioning. It appears that the suspect was in contact with a person known to be involved with the recently-dismantled jihadist cell in Belgium.
