The Greek anti-terrorism police have arrested four people suspected of being involved in the planning of terrorist attacks in Belgium. The suspects appear to be related to the terrorist cell that was confronted by Belgium authorities in Verviers.

Amongst those arrested is a man believed to be Belgium national Abdelhamid Abaaoud, who is thought to be the head of the terrorist cell that was dismantled in Belgium. He is also the brother of one of the two suspected jihadi terrorists who was killed in the gun battle in Verviers on Thursday evening.

The suspect believed to be Abaaoud was arrested in an apartment in Pangrati and was located after he made a number of phone calls to a prisoner held near Lieges in eastern Belgium, between Christmas and New Year.

The Greek authorities have sent DNA and fingerprints of the suspects to the Belgium authorities to confirm their identity.
