The main opposition party SYRIZA issued a statement regarding the government’s announcement of bringing the Presidential elections forward and estimates that the current parliamentary assembly will not elect a President.

As such, SYRIZA claims that the government announcement was “expected and welcome”, as it “brings closer the only prospect of salvation for the people and the country”, namely general elections.

According to SYRIA the coalition government will be unable to amass the necessary 180 votes to elect a parliament and argued that the government is hiding new measures and trying to extort MPs to vote accordingly.
