An MP for the main opposition party SYRIZA, Alexis Mitropoulos, recently gave an interview to Vima 99.5 FM where he stressed that his party much receive a strong parliamentary majority in order to form an independent government that will allow the party to carry out its commitments regarding the bailout and debt.

Mr. Mitropoulos further explained that a strong parliamentary majority will mean that his aprty will not need to form alliances with any parties that accept the bailout policies. The MP favored “aggressive negotiations” over taking unilateral decisions regarding the debt and stressed the need for growth.

Meanwhile, SYRIZA MEP Dimitris Papadimoulis suggested that PM Antonis Samaras and SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras should meet and come to an agreement on the Presidential elections, general elections and debt settlement. SYRIZA officer Alekos Kalyvis was quick to refute rumors of a consensus, noting that the government and PM’s neoliberal and pro-memorandum stance are responsible for the deadlock on critical matters.
