The Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, government Vice President Evangelos Venizelos and Minister of Administrative Reform Kyriakos Mitsotakis have arranged to meet at noon today. The coalition government’s new public sector staff review system, which has come under fire from both the opposition and within the government itself, will be at the top of their agenda.

PASOK has expressed its doubts as to whether the review system is fair and capable of addressing the State’s needs and interests. The major controversy stems from the reviews system’s negative quota requirement, according to which 15% of employees must be graded bellow average.

The opposition parties have argued that the 15% of civil servants who must receive negative reviews will essentially be suspended and eventually dismissed. The Deputy Minister of Administrative Reform Evi Christofilopoulou has proposed an amendment that will explicitly provide that employees will not face dismissal, suffer wage cuts or transfer base on the review.
