The General Secretary of the Greek Communist Party Dimitris Koutsoumpas was overtly critical of opposition leaders SYRIZA for “trying to be the new PASOK” and the River, which it accused of “siding with big interests”.
Mr. Koutsoumpas made the accusations on SKAI’s morning chat shows, where he also charged SYRIZA with “adopting the corrupt and rotten [elements] of PASOK” and avoiding to give a straight answer as to what relationship Greece must have with the European Union.
Furthermore Mr. Koutsoumpas claimed that the Left Platform and Panagiotis Lafazanis’ proposals regarding the euro are “within city limits” and do not constitute a “left proposal” in relation to Greece’s standing in Europe. The Communist Party’s general secretary urged votes to eschew the New Democracy / SYRIZA “dilemma”.
When asked about the recent formation of new parties and non-political divs deciding to get involved in the upcoming elections, the KKE leader estimated that the new parties “are siding with big interests” and targeted Stavros Theodorakis’ River by noting that “the renewal of politics does not occur with illustrated wrappers from television stars”.
