A forest fire broke out on Wednesday evening at around 9.30pm, at the Argyro near Aliveri in Evia. The fire began at a low vegetation plateau, but has not threatened any houses.

The strong wings have made the Fire Brigade’s job difficult; the smoke clouds can be seen in Athens. About 15 Fire Brigade vehicles and 35 fire-fighters have been dispatched to extinguish the fire. At the break of dawn two aircraft have also assisted in the Fire Brigade’s operation.
