Despite the support of about 2,000 fans who made the trip to the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium in Brussels, Greece’s reigning champions Olympiacos were defeated 1-0 by local side Anderlecht, with the rematch in Piraeus on the 25th of February to determine who makes it to the next round of the Europa League.

The “Reds” started off strong in the game and had an opportunity to take the lead early on in the game, after Ideye Brown hit the crossbars in the 9th minute of the match. Marco Silva’s squad was on form and it appeared a matter of time to score a goal.

In the second half though, Olympiacos wasted three major opportunities to take open the score, with Luka Milivojević (47’), Jimmy Durmaz (55’) and Ideye Brown (64’), however the Belgian team’s goalkeeper was prepared.

After many wasted opportunities from the Greek side though, the Belgian managed to ‘steal’ the match thanks to a lapse in concentration by Olympiacos goalie Roberto in 68th minute of the match, allowing Serigne Mbodji to secure victory for his team.
