The Minister of Labor, Social Insurance and Social Solidarity Giorgos Katrougalos argued that the government is seeking out alternative equivalent measures, in order to avoid carrying out new pension cuts and abolishing the EKAS solidarity benefit.

The goal must be a sustainable and fair pension system and in one month we must implement what was not done in 40 years” argued Mr. Katrougalos at the handover ceremony of the Labor Ministry. Furthermore, he noted that the goal is to restore labor security.

Mr. Katrougalos argued that “we must reform the pensions system, we should have done this a long time ago” and “we have an obligation to have a fair system that will not affect the weak and which will be sustainable in the long-term«.
