The caretaker Minister of Interior Antonis Manitakis has called the first meeting of the intergroup committee for the general elections that have been scheduled for the 20th of September. The meeting has been arranged for 1pm at the Ministry of Interior.

So far the polls suggest that it will be a close electoral battle next month, with New Democracy closing the distance from SYRIZA, which remains in the lead. Both parties are to focus their campaigns on attracting undecided voters.

SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras lashed out against the main opposition from the stand of his party’s nationwide conference over the weekend, stressing that “we are not all the same”. Mr. Tsipras’ main goal is to galvanize party support, which has waned since January’s election.

On the other hand, New Democracy’s provisional leader Evangelos Meimarakis has coalesced traditional party voters, but has noted that there are many former party supporters turning to the Union of Centrists that is helmed by Vasilis Leventis.

Both Mr. Tsipras and Mr. Meimarakis have agreed to carrying out debates, as they both appear to be confident that they will manage to sway undecided voters.
