SYRIZA MP Makis Balaouras likened the agreement reached between Greece and its creditors to the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk, in a Friday morning appearance on Mega Channel.
According to Mr. Balaouras the dilemma posed was not one of ‘bailout vs. no bailout’, but rather the clash of neoliberal and left-wing courses. The SYRIZA MP explained that “mutatis mutandis, the agreement is like the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk” and added that a “tactical retreat” as under way.
The Treaty of Brest- Litovsk was signed between the Bolshevik government of Russia and the Central Powers in 1918 and effectively ended Russian involvement in the First World War.
In the treaty, Russia ceded the Baltic States to Germany, along with half of its European territories (including Ukraine) and a quarter of its population. Germany also seized control of most Russian mines and half of the remaining industries.
