The Austrian Chancellor Werner Faymann argued that the German Minister of Finances Wolfgang Schäuble is “totally wrong” about Greece being better off, if the country were to leave the Eurozone.

Mr. Faymann explained that the German Finance Minister has “created the impression for some that it may be useful for us if Greece falls out of the currency union, that maybe we pay less that way”, in an interview for Austrian newspaper Der Standard.

Earlier on Thursday the German Finance Minister argued on the Deutschlanfunk radio station that a temporary departure from the Eurozone “would perhaps be the better way for Greece” and has ruled out a debt haircut, despite recognizing its necessity and unsustainability of Greek debt.
