The leader of the European People’s Party in the European Parliament Manfred Weber has claimed that the talks regarding the possibility of a “Grexit” have increased. Mr. Weber made the statement when he was asked by Austrian newspaper Der Standard to comment as to whether a Grexit would be a realistic option.

The German politician added that Greece will only receive further financial assistance if it makes an effort on its own, noting that the Greek government has isolated itself. He was also critical of the cooperation of the left-wing SYRIZA with the far-right Independent Greeks.

Meanwhile, the Austrian Finance Minister Hans Jörg Schelling told journalists that there were not provisions for a country to depart from the Eurozone, only from European Union.
