The Minister of State Nikos Pappas gave an radio station interview where he argued that “each side must prove if they wish a solution or not”.

Mr. Pappas added that if no agreement is reached at the Eurogroup today, then the “political interventions of the highest level” will be necessary, meaning the EU Summit.

In the interview the Minister stressed that “we are not entering discussions to ask, but to talk” and clarified that “the government will not willingly enter an agreement which constitutes it a non government; we cannot ask permission to legislate”. He added that “the measures that will be taken are a matter of domestic policy”.

Regarding the latest Greek proposal, Mr. Pappas asserted that “it will not change! It has the signature of the Minister of Finances. Either it will happen or it will not. There are not solutions somewhere in the middle. It is the time for high political responsibility”.

Meanwhile, government spokesman Gabriel Sakellaridis stated that the government has done what it as had to do in order to come to an agreement with the country’s creditors and partners, but underlined that the government would not accept the continuation of the existing program.

Mr. Sakellaridis also opined that the circumstances for an agreement have “matured”.
