The police investigation into the drug cartel which is responsible for two tons of heroin that were recovered by Greek authorities in December continues, with police sources indicating that that prominent businessmen may have been involved.

About 4 to 5 people are soon to be charged with involvement in the drug and the Greek authorities have requested assistance from their colleagues in Canada, indicating the extent of the cartel’s operations.

Meanwhile, the main suspect – a 57-year-old chief captain for a shipping company – in the case continues to deny being the man identified as “Captain George” who is alleged to have been behind the heroin shipment from Dubai.

At present, over 30 people have been charged with involvement in the cartel, including a 41-year-old businessman based in Dubai, the aforementioned 57-year-old, a businessman involved with the oil industry in Patra and the crew members of the Noor 1.

The police are investigating mobile phone records in order to determine how the drug cartel organized the transportation of the heroin.
