The president of New Democracy Antonis Samaras communicated with the presidents of PASOK Evangelos Venizelos and The River Stavros Theodorakis, in order to discuss the relationship between Greece and Europe in light of the recent Eurogroup developments and to “coordinate the pro-Europe forces”.

Mr. Theodorakis rejected Mr. Samaras’ proposal, arguing the Prime Minister must call a meeting with the other political leaders and accordingly take any initiatives. According to Mr. Theodorakis, should Mr. Tsipras take such an initiative, the country’s negotiating powers will multiply.

Mr. Venizelos also rejected Mr. Samaras’ proposal, noting that it would not offer anything at present. Instead, Mr. Venizelos proposed that the government should inform the other parties in Parliament of recent developments and how it intends to manage the increasingly difficult situation.
