Lamda Development, the development company that acquired the former airport at Elliniko, stated that the acquisition was fully legal, in response to earlier comments by Minister of Productive Reconstruction, Environment and Energy Panagiotis Lafazanis.

Mr. Lafazanis had previously stated that the acquisition was “scandalous”, that the development plans were “extremely anti-environmental” and that the government would re-examine it in order to cancel it.

The development company claims that the procedures followed were all legal and that the acquisition was approved by the Court of Auditors. Additionally, the company asserts that its investment will attract more potential investors and can contribute towards combating unemployment.

Furthermore, Lamda Development disputes Mr. Lafazanis’ accusations regarding the environmental impact of its plans and stresses the need for fertile discussion and debate.

Earlier last years the Technical Chamber of Greece published a report according to which the development was sold for a third of its true value, while the Foundation for Economic and Industrial Research (IOVE) later argued that the development will create 70,000 jobs by 2031.
