The Russian Minister of Finances Anton Siluanov told the American CNBC network that the Russian Federation would consider providing financial assistance to Greece, should the new Greek government make the request.

Mr. Siluanov was quick to not that while Greece has not made such a request towards Russian, he did not rule out the possibility of an agreement between the two countries.

According to the Russian official “if such a petition is submitted to the Russian government, we will definitely consider it, but will take into account all the factors of our bilateral relationships between Russia and Greece, so that is all I can say. If it is submitted we will consider it”.

Following the Greek government’s disagreement over the EU’s call for increasing sanctions against Russia, the international media have interpreted this development as Greece turning to Russia.
