The Greek statistics authority ELSTAT has published its latest statistics on unemployment in Greece, according to which the rate was 25.7% in September 2014, down from 26% in August. The total number of unemployed came to 1,241,114 and the financially non-active amounted to 3,293,357.

The rate of unemployed had reached a record 28% in September 2013 and ever since there has been a decline. Nevertheless, Greece continues to have the highest unemployment rate within the Eurozone, where the average rate is 11.5%.

The number of employed increased by 79,247 persons compared with September 2013 (a 2.3% rate of increase) and by 55,085 persons compared with August 2014 (a 1,6% rate of increase). Unemployed decreased by 123.115 persons (a 9.0% rate of decrease) compared with September 2013 and by 940 persons compared with August 2014 (a 0,1% rate of decrease).
