The head of SYRIZA’s financial policy Yannis Milios stated on Mega Channel on Tuesday morning that when his party comes to power, it will be in the position to identify 50% of tax evasion within a few months.
Mr. Milios stated that he was “confident” of being able to locate such a high rate of tax evaders, which in turn could generate about five billion euros worth of revenue for the State.
The first move towards this goal, explained Mr. Milios, is to take advantage of the online cross reference of tax payer information. Mr. Milios argued that while all forms of tax evasion will be persecuted, major cases of tax evasion will be targeted in particular, such as oil smuggling.
