The Minister of Finances Yannis Stournaras withdrew a controversial article from the real estate tax bill, according to which off-shore companies would enjoy a retroactive tax break for renting property to shipping companies.
The change came after SYRIZA MP Panagiotis Lafazanis pointed out that in accordance with the article over 90 million euros in confirmed taxes would not be paid, due to the retroactive nature of the provision. Mr. Lafazanis further told Mr. Stournaras to “not insist on this regulation”.
The Minister defended the provision “it will ease investments” and claimed that he will submit it in a future bill, so that the MPs have the necessary time to go through it and be prepared for a discussion.
