The nationwide federation of real estate owners POMIDA has responded to the government’s real estate tax bill which was submitted in Parliament yesterday and commented that it will bring an end to the middle class, the construction sector and the real estate market. The federation notes that the government’s tax bill is unconstitutional since it prohibits taxpayers from appealing to the courts without having acquired a certificate for a Directory of Financial Services.

POMIDA claims that the coalition government’s tax bill was composed to intentionally burden owners of real estate in urban areas in order to protect the election clientele in the countryside. Furthermore, POMIDA stresses that all tax charges are based on fictitious market values which bear no resemblance to reality.

The federation has suggested that the tax for vacant and non-electrified dwellings must be reduced drastically, similarly to how property in agricultural areas is going to be taxed. Additionally owners must be given the right to unilaterally transfer land to the State to cover current and future debts, as well as decriminalizing the objective inability to pay real estate taxes.
