A survey carried out by Public Issue and published in the Avgi newspaper shows that the main opposition party has a major lead over the governing SYRIZA party.

Specifically, 36% of respondents believe that New Democracy would be a more suitable party to govern Greece, compared to 14% who responded SYRIZA. About 45% however feels that none of the two major parties is suitable to govern.

The poll also shows that New Democracy’s Kyriakos Mitsotakis (42%) is also considered a more suitable Prime Minister compared to SYRIZA’s Alexis Tsipras (23%).

Additionally, 85% believe that the county is headed in the wrong direction, with 51% claiming that early elections are necessary. About 9 in 10 respondents are disappointed in the government, while 80% is also disappointed in the opposition.
