There is no need for additional measures at present” commented government spokesperson Olga Gerovasili at the weekly press briefing. Mrs. Gerovasili cited Eurostat’s report due on Thursday which is rumored to show that the state of the Greek economy is in a better condition that initial estimates suggested.

According to the government spokesperson, the Eurostat report will show that the primarily surplus achieved in 2015 was greater than initial estimates. Regarding the possibility of additional measures being taken by the Greek government, Mrs. Gerovasili clarified that “we will only discuss additional measure if the review closes”. This, in turn, will bring the much-desired stability to the troubled Grek economy.

Furthermore, the government spokesperson stated that the existing agreement, which was reached in July 2015, includes provisions for additional measures when targets are not met. As such, she stressed that discussing the possibility of measures in case 2018’s surplus target is not achieved destabilizes and harms the economy.
