The main opposition party New Democracy has submitted a proposal to the President of Parliament Nikos Voutsis for the formation of an examination committee for the third bailout and capital controls.

Partly leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis had announced his intention to do so earlier on Tuesday, during the parliamentary discussion on justice and corruption. Mr. Mitsotakis specifically argued that he will support the government initiative to investigate loans that were given to political parties, provided the government supports the ND proposal.

The purpose of the investigation requested by the main opposition party is to determine the SYRIZA/Independent Greeks coalition government’s responsibilities in the imposition of capital controls in the summer of 2015, the need for a third bailout and the recapitalization of the banks.

In its application, New Democracy cites interviews with former Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis and current Governor of the Bank of Greece Yannis Stournaras. According to ND, the government had a plan to remove Greece from the Eurozone, intended to close the banks and introduce a new parallel currency
