The police reported that a hostage situation in the Tagarades area in Thessaloniki concluded early on Tuesday morning. According to reports, a father kept his two children – aged 4 and 6 – locked in the apartment he used to share with his former wife.
The father appears to have visited his former wife on Monday and after a heated argument he forced her out of the apartment, after which point he locked himself inside with the children.
A police negotiator was in contact with the man throughout the night in order to convince him to surrender. Eventually the man gave himself up to the police. During the hostage situation the children were asleep and do not appear to have been aware of what was going on.
