The European statistics authority Eurostat has announced that the rate of unemployment in Greece during July 2014 remained stable at 25%, compared to June.
Unemployment in the Eurozone during September dropped to 10.8% from 10.9% in August. Meanwhile, in the European Union the rate of dropped from 9.4% to 9.3%. There is no data on Greece for August and September at the moment.
In total there were 22.6 million unemployed in the EU and 17.3 million unemployed in the Eurozone. The highest rates of unemployment are encountered in Greece (25% in July) and Spain (21.6%), while the lowest were documented in Germany (4.5%), the Czech Republic (4.8%) and Malta (5.1%).
In Greece, Eurostat documented 1.2 million unemployed in July, with unemployment affecting 21.5% of men and 29.4% of women. Greece also had the highest rate of youth unemployment, with 48.6% of young people out of a job in July, from 48.1% in June.
The highest rates of youth unemployment were encountered in Greece (48.6%), Spain (46.7%), Croatia (43.1%) and Italy (40.5%), while the lowest were documented in Germany (7%), Austria (11%) and the Netherlands (11.5%).
Overall, the rate of youth unemployment according to Eurostat in the Eurozone September was 22.1% (from 22.2% in August), while the rate in the EU remained stable at 20.1%.
