A crescent moon sculpture the seafront of Thessaloniki has been targeted by vandals for the third time, who caused damages to the base of the structure and attempted to throw it in the sea.

The vandals appear to have targeted the sculpture for nationalist reasons, as it resembles the crescent moon symbol in Islam. The structure was also vandalized twice, earlier in July, according to the Ethnos newspaper.

The crescent moon sculpture, which was created by Pavlos Vasiliadis, is located on the wooden deck on the Thessaloniki seafront, near the “Macedonia Pallas” hotel.
