The President of SYRIZA Alexis Tsipras delivered a speech at the International Fair in Thessaloniki on Sunday, where he also presented his party’s program for the upcoming general elections.

Mr. Tsipras referred to the hard battle he gave during his seven months in power and accused his main opponent, New Democracy, of lacking any vision or plan on improving the existing agreements and aiming to perpetuate the previous situation and continuing the social catastrophe. “We want growth that is not based on social ruins” he stressed and emphasized his party’s growth model for Greece.

According to Mr. Tsipras, New Democracy and Evangelos Meimarakis want to “carry on with deregulating the job market, withdraw the bill on television network licensing, end the ambitious program to tackle the humanitarian crisis, abolish the law on ‘100 installments’ and focus tax inspection on small debtors who objectively are unable to pay”.

The SYRIZA leader claimed that his party has the guarantees, ethics, abilities and knowledge to support Greek society and the public interest. He admitted that while the recent bailout agreement was harsh, his aim is to improve its terms through further negotiations and seeking equivalent alternatives.

“We want an exit from the crisis, with society and people standing up” he stressed and underlined the importance of growth with social prosperity. Mr. Tsipras noted that growth must be based on employment, investing in innovations and producing high quality products and services.
