Prosecutor Ilias Zagoreos has launched an investigation into the detainment conditions at the migrant detention center in Amygdaleza, in response to recent media reports.
The investigation will aim to determine whether there have been instances of abuse and maltreatment of the migrant detainees and to identify those responsible.
Clashes between protesters and the police took place outside the controversial migrant detainment center on the 13th of February, after a detainee committed suicide.
The Alternate Minister of Public Order Yannis Panousis surveyed the detainment center the next day and stated that he was “ashamed” by what he saw. He also announced that the detainment centers would shut down and be replaced by probation areas.
