A 33-year-old Algerian man who was arrested by the counter-terrorism police in Pagrati has been taken to prosecutor. The Belgium authorities have issued a European warrant for his arrest and requested his extradition, believing he may be involved in terrorist activities.

Initially there Belgian authorities noted that the 33-year-old suspect is not related to the jihadist terror cell that was recently dismantled, based on the DNA and fingerprints they received.

The police released one of the two men detained on Saturday (initial reports suggested that four people were arrested) and were about to release the second one as well, after he submitted an additional deposition.

In the meantime, Greek authorities lifted a privacy ban on the 33-year-old’s mobile phone records and discovered that his number had been under surveillance by Belgian authorities, which then requested his extradition for further questioning.
