After the arrest of two alleged accomplices of Christodoulos Xiros in Kalamata on Wednesday, the police have stepped up its efforts to locate and arrest other accomplices.

Aside from a 22-year-old woman who appears to have acted as a messenger between Xiros and members of the Conspiracy of Fire Cells, the police are also searching for a 50-year-old bank employee who is alleged to have rented an apartment in Loutraki that Xiros used.

The arrest of the two men on Wednesday, one former police officer and a known criminal, has suggested that Xiros and the Conspiracy of Fire Cells group may have developed greater ties with criminal gangs.

Police officers have also told To Vima that it is likely that Xiros and the Fire Cells were to play a support or minor role in their upcoming operations, which included a daring prison escape.

The officers explain that after Xiros escaped from Korydallos, he joined a criminal group that receives orders from within prison and which has formed an alliance with the imprisoned members of the Conspiracy of Fire Cells.
