The president of the Eurogroup Jeroen Dijsselbloem pledged to cooperated with the new Greek government after the upcoming elections and provide further assistance, provided it maintains the austerity policy and reform program, during an interview in Japan.

Mr. Dijsselbloem stressed that Europe is prepared to do what is necessary, noting that “a lot” has already been done, provided that the new Greek government respects the agreements made with the previous government.

The Dutch Finance Minister called Greek voters to “face reality” regarding the country’s position and warned that it would be “a shame” to waste the efforts that have been made.

The current rescue program has been extended until the end of February, with the new Greek government having to negotiate with its creditors and partners.
