About 150 to 200 employees at Cosco’s cargo handling facilities at the port of Piraeus began strike actions early on Friday morning over their working conditions.

After night-shift employees blocked off access to Cosco’s cargo handling facilities the previous night, the employees denounced the management for abuse on Thursday and posed their demands.

Employee representatives met with the Cosco managers, who requested time until Monday to respond. The employees in response decided to remain on site until then, but noted that no work will be done.

Amongst employee demands are signing a collective labor agreement, having their profession recognized as hazardous in order to receive relevant benefits, a pay increase, abolishing 16-hour shifts, as well as health and safety concerns.
