Taxpayers in Greece have only two working days left to their income tax, ENFIA tax and road tax, with the government hoping to collect about 2 billion euros by the end of the year.

Specifically, the government expects car owners to pay up 1.1 billion euros in road tax for 2016, while the third installment of the ENFIA real estate tax will generate about 600 million euros. The government also expects 150 million euros from about 30,000 legal entities from advance payments.

Although the deadline for the ENFIA tax is ‘set in stone’, there is a likely scenario of that a short extension will be provided for the payment of the road tax, as is ‘customary’ each year. Taxpayers who miss this final deadline will face a fine worth 100% of their road tax. For all other overdue debts the monthly penalty imposed is 1%. Late payers may also face the prospect of losing out on settlements and beneficial payment terms.
