The new identity cards will be difficult to forge and will have a cost of about 10 euros, revealed the Alternate Minister of Public Order Nikos Toskas in an interview on ERT.

According to Mr. Toskas, a final proposal regarding the features and the biometric information that will be included in the new identity cards will be submitted by the end of January. A committee will decide whether the new cards will include any other biometric data, aside from fingerprints.

The Alternate Minister explained that current IDs were easy to forge, which in turn could be used to issue passports. No instances of forged Greek passports and driving licenses, which comply with strict security measures, have been reported. Each new identity card will cost about 10 euros, Mr. Toskas added.
