The trial for the two tons of heroin that were shipped to Greece via the Noor 1 will continue on Monday with the defendants set to submit their depositions. A total of 33 people are standing trial, with 25 of the defendants in remand.

Four of the defendants will however be released from remand, as the 18-month maximum detainment period has been exceeded. All four are of Turkish descent, with three being Belgian nationals and the fourth a Greek national who operated as an interpreter. The four will be placed under house arrest and will have to present themselves daily at a local police department.

The major heroin bust unraveled in June 2014 when the Noor 1 was used to transport two tons of heroin from Dubai and Persian Golf to Greece. One ton was located in a villa in the Athens suburb of Filothei, while the other was recovered in a warehouse in Koropi.
