The 2015/2016 football season in Greece officially began on Saturday afternoon and concluded on Monday evening. This season sees the return of AEK and Iraklis to the top-tier football championship in Greece after 2 and 4 four years respectively.

The action on Saturday kicked off with two away wins, with Iraklis defeating AEL Kallonis (0-1) on Lesvos, while Asteras Tripolis overcame the resistance of Panthrakikos (0-2) in Komotini. AEK on the other hand faced Cretan side Platanias in Athens and pleased its fans with a 3-0 victory.

On Sunday Atromitos defeated Levadiakos 1-0 in Peristeri, while Veria drew with PAS Giannina (1-1). Championship contenders PAOK also drew with Xanthe in Thessaloniki, while reigning champions and cup-holder Olympiacos faced no problems against Panionios (3-0) in Piraeus.

The first day of the new season concluded on Monday with Panathinaikos beating Panetolikos (1-2) in an away match in Agrinio.
