The meeting of political leaders and the consensus achieved at first, regarding the country’s membership in the euro is a small first step towards establishing a common national strategy. The injured Greek society and divided political system set aside what splits us apart, in order to overcome the challenges that await us, even now.

The country, economy, people and political system as all trapped together in an enduring crisis which is threatening our very survival. The messages from our European partners, after the referendum, are not particularly encouraging and time is running against us. Every day that goes by without an agreement further exacerbates the already problematic situation we are experiencing.

The Prime Minister, who received a fresh and expanded mandate, have the duty and responsibility of presenting today to our partners a plan that is cohesive, comprehensive and compatible with the rules of the European Union, which will make the other leaders aware of the responsibilities; a plan that will ensure the smooth funding of the country and banking system, while setting aside the insecurity and uncertainty that plagues the country.

The any inter-party reactions cannot stand in the way of the country’s greater interests. Any further delays or indeed a new impasse in the negotiations will have dramatic consequences on the economy and the people. After all, Mr. Tsipras himself interpreted the people’s vote that it was a mandate for an agreement and not a rupture. That must be his only target, his only option.
