The Mayors of Athens and Thessaloniki Giorgos Kaminis and Yannis Boutaris have taken the initiative to form a national committee in favor of Greece remaining in Europe and the Eurozone, in response to the referendum.

The two mayors arranged to meet with President Prokopis Pavlopoulos at 1pm on Tuesday to discuss the catastrophic consequences that the referendum may have for the country’s future. They urged the President to taken a real initiative and call the country’s political leaders, either together or separately, in order to initiate talks.

Prior to the scheduled meeting with President Pavlopoulos, the two mayors visited Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, amid rumors of an imminent transition to the drachma.

In a television interview Mr. Kaminis stressed that Sunday’s referendum is pointless and legally void, as one of the options, that of accepting the institutions’ proposal, is no longer on the table.
