The German Chancellor Angela Merkel will comment on the Greek general elections results on Monday, after the final results are known. Mrs. Merkel, according to German reports, is likely to make the comment during her Monday press conference, via government spokesman Steffen Seibert.

Most of the German parties have so far avoided commenting on the general elections in Greece, although there have been some exceptions. The leftist Die Linke party is celebrating SYRIZA’s major victory, while the nationalist Euroskeptic AfD has warned SYRIZA to adjust to reality and cooperate.

The CDU’s Karl-Hermann Reil has ruled out the possibility of a new debt write off, stressing that Greece must continue with its reform program in order to avoid the possibility of a Grexit. These sentiments were also reflected in comments made earlier by the German central banker Jens Weidmann.
