The Ministry of Culture is expected to make an announcement today regarding the identity of the person whose remains were found buried in the enigmatic tomb in Amphipolis.

Rumors suggest that the skeleton that was discovered in the tomb belongs to a woman aged between 50 and 60 years old at the time of her death, suggesting that it may belong to Olympias, the mother of Alexander the Great.

Other unconfirmed rumors suggest that the bone fragments discovered belong to multiple people, based on the belief that the tomb was open in antiquity and therefore multiple burials may have taken place there.

Experienced archeologists dispute the possibility of the skeleton belonging to Olympias, arguing that historic sources detail how she was executed and buried in Pydna, adding that the Amphipolis tomb has no relation to the royal Temenid dynasty.

Nevertheless, the scientific investigation of the bone fragments will last for about two years, with the final results expected in about 20 months. The results will be compared to sample of about 300 other skeletons that have been discovered in the greater area, dating between 1000BC to 200AD.
