A tribute concert for famed Cypriot composer Marios Tokas will take place at the Herodion on Friday the 3rd of October, where numerous artists will perform a selection of his songs.

The concert will see artists such as Giorgos Dalaras, Glykeria, Yannis Kotsiras, Miltos Paschalidis, Doros Dimosthenous and Dimitra Stathopoulou perform songs, while Yannis Papazachariakis will conduct. Along with the music performance, video and photo documents about the life and times of Marios Tokas will be broadcast, with actor Stelios Mainas narrating.

Tokas is considered one of the most important modern Cypriot artists and rose to fame in the late 1970s and 1980s, after he moved to Greece following his military service in Cyprus. In Greece he collaborated with artists such as Manolis Mitsias, Yannis Ritsos, Dimitris Mitropanos, Haris Alexiou and Tolis Voskopoulos.

The Turkish invasion of Cyprus and the ensuing hardships stigmatized Tokas and were a regular theme in his songs and compositions. Tokas argued that his greatest moment in his career was presenting his work at the St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna, accompanied by the Bratislava Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra, as part of the celebrations for Cyprus’ accession to the European Union.

The concert is sponsored by the President of the Cypriot Democracy Nikos Anastasiadis, who will also be present. Tickets for the event are available via the Public stores and viva.gr, with prices ranging from 15 to 70 euros.
