The association of tourist businesses in Greece (SETE) had documented a 17.1% increase of international arrivals in the first half of 2014 compared to last year. This increase translates in 760,000 more tourists, which seems to confirm estimations that tourist arrivals in Greece will exceed the goal of 19 million for 2014.

According to SETE’s data Athens has seen a remarkable increase of 32.8%, (about 400,000 additional arrivals); the greatest increases were reported in Kalamata (56.5%), Santorini (26%), Chania (24.1%) and Samos (22.1%).

The tourist association has stressed the importance of extending the tourist season and increasing flights amongst popular tourist destinations, as well as gradually developing alternative networks to provide Greece’s tourist product.
