Representatives of the ERT employees, who have occupied the television station’s facilities in Agia Paraskevi, met for the fourth time with the Deputy Minister of Public Television and Radio Pantelis Kapsis with a “complete and realistic” proposal.

The employees’ proposal suggests the opening the new Public Television and Radio to succeed ERT immediately, from ERT’s facilities. The proposal also provides that ERT employees will continue working on programs, while those who wish can retire.

The proposal’s goal is to set NERIT up as a viable channel through real dialog and support from independent bodies and employee unions. This proposal is in line with all relevant legislation, protects the rights of ERT employees, does not further burden the budget and can provide the real public broadcasting service that is needed.

The employees however report that while Mr. Kapsis “made a note” of the proposal, he twice stated that he “refuses to pass it on anywhere”, much less the government. In light of this refusal, the ERT employee unions (POSPERT – ESIEA) have contacted the government parties and relevant ministers for a meeting.
