The decision on the pipeline that will transport natural gas to Europe from the Shah Deniz field will be made on Wednesday and the final announcements expected to take place on Friday, at Baku.

The Greek side is confident that the TransAdriatic Pipeline (TAP) will be chosen over the Nabucco West pipeline. This will allow Greece into the EU’s geopolitically important South Energy Corridor.

Aside from commercial and technical criteria, two recent developments suggest that the TAP proposal will be favored over Nabucco. The signing of a Host Government Agreement (HGA) between Greece and the pipeline joint venture last Friday and SOCAR’s deal for DESFA.
