A group of hundreds of refugees attempted to cross over into FYROM on Clean Monday, unable to bear the living conditions at the camp in Idomeni. It appears that a rumor regarding an opening in the border in the nearby Chamilo village prompted many of the refugees.

Greek authorities were caught by surprise and unable to convince the huge group of remaining on Greek soil and as such, the refugees managed to cross over into the neighboring country, after treading the river on foot.

Although the refugees managed to cross over into FYROM, they were faced with the Armed Forces, who soon arrested them, along with volunteers and photo reporters. All of them have reportedly been transferred to Gevgelija, in order to be returned to Greece. This is likely to occur on Tuesday morning, however this development may bring further tension to the strained relations of Athens and Skopje.
