The Balance of Nash, a theatrical play by Pigi Dimitrakopoulou that is scheduled to be performed on the Experimental Stage of the National Theater, has sparked controversy because it includes excerpts from the book of 17 November member Savvas Xiros.

Aside from Xiros, the play also includes excepts from Albert CamusLes Justes and purports to demonstrate the universal concept that violence is not a solution.

The National Theater director Anestis Azas spoke to To Vima and argued that “the play does not defend the terrorists; it is a collage of texts that deals with historical issues related to terrorism” and underlined that “no idea can justify the taking of a human life”.

Mrs. Dimitrakopoulou defended the controversial use of the excepts in her play by explaining that Xiros is used as an “extreme example” to argue that all prisoners must have equal rights. She also noted that “the 17 November case is closed”.

The USA’s embassy in Athens reacted to the play over the Xiros excerpts and claimed that while it odes not agree with censoring art, it questions to what extent the State should fund the art of a terrorist.
